Uruguay Showcases Investment Potential at America Business Forum

PUNTA DEL ESTE, Uruguay – The America Business Forum (ABF), expected to bring together 3,000 business, policy and NGO leaders from the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia, opened on Friday in the seaside resort of Punta del Este.

Antonio Carambula, the CEO of export and investment-promotion agency Uruguay XXI, told EFE that the event will serve as a “shop window” to display the benefits of investing in Uruguay.

“Hosting events at this level in Uruguay helps position the country,” he said, stressing the importance of holding the forum in Punta del Este, the country’s “main calling card.”

This year, the ABF will include a series of talks under the banner “One of a Kind: The Journey of the Trailblazers,” in which renowned personalities will share their life stories, moderated by former CNN journalist Carlos Montero.

Among the speakers will be Spanish fashion designer and business woman Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Uber Latin America CEO George Gordon and former Aerolineas Argentinas president Isela Constantini.

Carambula, who participated in the inauguration alongside ABF president Ignacio Gonzalez, said that, in recent years, Uruguay has seen the longest growth period in its history while boasting the “region’s lowest levels of inequality.”
