MONTEVIDEO – Uruguayan President Tabare Vazquez plans to meet on Tuesday with World Health Organization (WHO) director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus ahead of the Global Conference on Noncommunicable Diseases to be held in Montevideo this week.
The meeting will be held at the presidential residence and will also be attended by Health Minister Jorge Basso, officials said.
On Wednesday, as the conference opens, Vazquez, an oncologist, will meet with International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Secretary-General Houlin Zhao.
The president will meet on the following day with the health ministers of Russia, Veronika Skvortsova, and Iran, Seyed Hasam Qazizade Hashemi.
During the first day of the conference, the presidents of Argentina, Mauricio Macri; Chile, Michelle Bachelet; and Paraguay, Horacio Cartes, will address participants, including heads of state and government; health, agriculture, development cooperation, finance, foreign affairs, planning and trade ministers; public policy decision makers; UN organizations’ representatives; and global experts and advocates.
