MONTEVIDEO – Seven people died early Monday in a fire at a nursing home in Montevideo, fire department spokesmen told EFE.
Seventeen people were inside the building when the fire started.
The victims – four women and three men – ranged in age from 76 to 90.
The Montevideo fire department received the first emergency calls at 6:00 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, fire department spokesmen said.
Other people in the building were evacuated and at least one was taken to a hospital with symptoms of smoke inhalation.
