MANAGUA – The three people aboard suffered minor injuries Friday when their helicopter went down near a bus station in this capital, Nicaraguan authorities said.
The aircraft hit the ground at 6:30 am on a vacant lot next to the terminal in a poor neighborhood of Managua.
Police said the accident did not result in any casualties or damage on the ground, while the three occupants of the helicopter suffered only bumps and bruises, according to Fly VIP, the company that operated the aircraft.
Nicaragua’s civil aeronautics agency will investigate to determine the cause of the accident, Fly VIP director Alvaro Moncada told reporters, though he ruled out error on the part of pilot Manuel Lopez Aviles, who he described as a “very experienced person.”
The passengers, brother Ernesto and Americo Gonzalez, chartered the helicopter to take aerial photographs of Managua, Moncada said.
