LA PAZ – Rescue workers recovered the body of one of the two miners trapped over the weekend about 35 meters (115 feet) underground after a collapse at a silver, copper and zinc mine on the outskirts of La Paz, Bolivia’s capital, officials said.
The body of Ramon Choque Choque, 36, was found Sunday inside the privately operated La Solucion mine in the community of Hampaturi, La Paz Mayor Luis Revilla said.
“I have been informed that one of them has already been found dead, but there is much hope that the other miner (Saul Mamani) may still be alive there,” the mayor said.
Conditions for the rescue operation are not the best because the digging must be done by hand, Revilla said. EFE
