LA PAZ – Two people were killed and five others injured Monday in a 22-vehicle accident in the Bolivian capital, police said.
The trouble began when the driver of an intercity bus lost control of the vehicle on a busy street shortly after entering La Paz, police Col. Victor Hugo Oña told reporters.
The bus careened downhill for six blocks, striking 21 vehicles before it came to a stop.
The fatalities were identified as two men ages 64 and 20, respectively. Two of the injured were children.
More than 60 people have died on Bolivia’s highways in the past four weeks, prompting police to revive a program aimed at detecting drunk drivers and vehicles that don’t meet safety standards. EFE
