LA PAZ – A sailor was killed and nine other people, including armed forces members, police and civilians, were injured when a helicopter participating in an anti-drug operation crashed in the central Bolivian province of Cochabamba, the air force said.
Hermes Terrazas Mamani was killed when the “Red Devils” squad helicopter went down Tuesday around 11:45 a.m. near Ayopaya, a town in the Chapare coca-growing region, the air force said.
The cause of the accident has not been determined.
Three airmen in charge of operating the aircraft, an army colonel, a sailor, two police officers and two rural development department officials were injured in the crash.
The injured were taken to hospitals in the eastern city of Santa Cruz. EFE
