LA PAZ – At least 13 people were killed and 32 others injured when a Chilean bus collided with a truck on the highway that links La Paz with the Andean region of Oruro, Bolivian media reported Wednesday.
The bus, which belonged to Chile’s Pullman line, was carrying 45 passengers, including Chileans, Bolivians and people from other countries, from the northern Chilean city of Arica to La Paz, the La Razon newspaper said.
The accident occurred Tuesday night, when the bus hit a truck hauling lumber that had pulled off to the side of the highway and did not have its lights on.
The bus collided with the truck near Ayo Ayo, a town about 85 kilometers (53 miles) from La Paz.
Eleven people were pronounced dead at the accident scene and two others died while being transported to a hospital in El Alto, outside La Paz, the highway patrol said.
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the accident, police said. EFE
