Clash at Bolivia Mine Leaves One Dead, Four Wounded

LA PAZ – A man was killed and four others were wounded by gunfire in a clash between peasants and former workers at a mine in the Bolivian highlands, the official ABI news agency reported.

The clash occurred on Sunday at the Litichi mine in Cocanipaya, a community near the town of Sorata in the highlands of the La Paz region.

The man who died was shot in the head, ABI reported.

The four people injured in the incident, one of whom was a 14-year-old boy, were taken to a hospital in La Paz for treatment of gunshot wounds and bruises.

Dr. Oscar Romero, one of the physicians who treated the injured, told Bolivision that three of the patients were in stable condition and one was “in critical condition.” EFE
