LIMA – A 19-year-old cadet was found shot to death at the Peruvian police academy in Lima’s Chorrillos district, authorities said Friday.
The student’s body was discovered Thursday in a bathroom in the cadets’ dormitory, the national police said in a statement.
Prosecutor Maritza Lopez and medical examiner Judith Maguiña were called in to join police detectives in carrying out what commanders promise will be a fully transparent investigation, the statement said.
The cadet’s death comes two weeks after an air force officer was found fatally shot at the Las Palmas base in the capital.
While the death of Maj. Jorge Olivera was initially ruled a suicide, investigators subsequently uncovered evidence that the officer had been beaten and shot by an unknown assailant or assailants. EFE
