Six Die in Bus Accident in Peru

LIMA At least six people were killed, 23 injured and two others disappeared when a bus plunged into a river Tuesday in Ancash, a region in northern Peru, police said.

The bus was heading from Huaraz, the capital of Ancash, to the town of Antonio Raimondi when it went into the Puchka River amid heavy rains in the rural Patay sector.

Police officers, firefighters and health department personnel worked to rescue the victims and transport the injured to hospitals in Huari province and Huaraz.

The most seriously injured people were taken to the hospital in Huaraz.

Rescue teams are searching for two people who were apparently swept away by the Puchka River.
