LIMA - A Peruvian company that produces fine chocolate with white cacao, considered one of the rarest types of cacao in the world and grown in the northern region of Piura, will compete in the International Chocolate Awards in October, the Cacaosuyo brand's executive director, Samir Gia, said.
The International Chocolate Awards is an independent competition that recognizes the excellence of fine chocolate and brings together companies from the United States, Britain and Italy.
Six years ago, Peru was not even included in the list of cacao-producing countries.
Since then, Gia told EFE, exports of the fine chocolate have brought great benefits to the Peruvian market.
"The president of the International Chocolate Awards said the best cacao in the world was Peruvian and that recognition puts us on the gastronomic map," Gia said.
