LIMA – Three workers were killed by a mudslide on a hill in the southern Peruvian region of Cuzco this weekend, the official Andina news agency reported.
The mudslide occurred on Friday, but officials did not learn about it until later in the weekend due to the remoteness of the site along the Paucartambo-Pilcopata highway where the disaster happened.
A 29-year-old heavy equipment operator and two of his assistants, ages 28 and 21, were killed by the mudslide, Andina said.
The mudslide buried the three men as they were excavating a site on the hill, investigators said.
Investigators from the prosecutor’s office in Paucartambo, police officers and residents recovered the bodies several hours after the mudslide occurred.
The bodies were taken to the morgue in Paucartambo on the orders of the prosecutor investigating the incident.
