SANTIAGO – Businessman Andronico Luksic, one of the richest people in Chile, is listed as a donor to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign, the El Mercurio newspaper reported Sunday.
Federal Election Commission, or FEC, records show that Luksic gave $670 to the Trump campaign on July 30.
Luksic’s representatives, however, say the businessman did not give money to the Republican candidate and instead purchased materials about Trump.
Luksic follows U.S. presidential elections closely and plans to host a small reception on Tuesday to follow the results, with signs, shirts and other campaign materials from both candidates decorating the venue, El Mercurio said.
Sources told the newspaper that Luksic has spent more than $700 on articles about Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, but the purchases do not appear in FEC records.
Andronico Luksic is one of the wealthiest businessmen in Chile and has interests in mining, banking and the media.
The latest national polls show Clinton with a 3-5 percent lead over Trump ahead of the Nov. 8 presidential election.
