SANTIAGO - Patients and medical personnel had to be evacuated after a fire hit a major health clinic in the Chilean capital.
According to a spokesman of one of the 11 firefighter units that attended the scene, the fire on Wednesday broke out in the basement of the Indisa Clinic, located a few blocks from EFE's local office in Santiago.
"The basement and several vehicles have been damaged," a firefighter told reporters.
He added that the health center's maternity section, where newborn babies are cared for, was not affected by the dense smoke.
In a statement, Clinic Indisa explained that medical personnel had been evacuated to streets outside the building, while patients were evacuated to the west side of the compound.
