VATICAN CITY – Dozens of people, mostly Chileans, expressed their rejection of legalizing abortion in Chile on Friday at St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican City.
The event, organized by “Ladies in White,” drew the cross figure in the square with their bodies, and prayed following the conclusion of the private meeting between Pope Francis and Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, which lasted for 47 minutes.
“Women in White” spokesperson, Maria Paz Vial, told Efe that they expected the meeting of the President with Pope Francis to help in the “budding of life.”
Paz Vial added that they pray to God that this meeting would not strengthen death.
She also said she did not want to practice political pressure but only to pray, stating that abortion kills not only the child but also the mother as well.
Vial recalled that a bill was presented in Chile permitting abortion in three cases and she relied on Bachelet’s meeting with the Pope to stop abortion in Chile.
