2 Killed, 12 Injured When Bleachers Collapse At Chile Concert

SANTIAGO – Two people were killed and at least 12 others were injured when stands collapsed during a concert by the British crust punk bank Doom in the Chilean capital, police said.
The incident occurred Thursday night at the Tsunami nightclub, located four blocks from the presidential palace, the Carabineros militarized national police said.

The two fatal victims were crushed by the bleachers, Carabineros Gen. Hugo Insulza told reporters.

“We have two deaths and about 12 people injured,” five of whose injuries are life-threatening, according to Insulza, who said the collapse was not caused by a stampede.

The injured were rushed to an emergency care facility, and the staff there are trying to locate the family members of the victims, he added.

Firefighters, ambulances and Carabineros Special Forces were dispatched to the nightclub.
