BUENOS AIRES – Argentine President Mauricio Macri on Friday received Chilean counterpart Michelle Bachelet for talks aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.
Macri welcomed Bachelet in the gardens of his official residence, Los Olivos, and the two leaders posed for photographers before going behind closed doors for a private meeting.
This is Bachelet’s first official trip to Buenos Aires since Macri took office in December 2015.
Earlier Friday, a pair of conferences involving Cabinet members from both countries and governors of provinces along the Chile-Argentina border got under way at Palacio San Martin in downtown Buenos Aires.
Diplomatic sources told EFE that Bachelet, who spent the night in Buenos Aires, will return to Santiago late Friday.
