Argentina’s Macri Meets with U.S. Treasury Secretary Lew

BUENOS AIRES – President Mauricio Macri met on Monday with U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, who is on an official visit to Argentina, officials said.

Macri and Finance Minister Alfonso Prat-Gay met with Lew at Jorge Newbery military airfield before the Argentine president flew to Colombia, where he will attend the signing ceremony for the peace agreement between the government and the FARC guerrilla group.

Lew, on a tour that also includes stops in Brazil, Colombia and Mexico, plans to prepare a report on the implementation of economic policy changes announced by the Macri administration.

The treasury secretary, according to the agenda released by the U.S. Embassy, is scheduled to meet with government officials and business leaders to discuss economic policies and efforts to fight money laundering.

Lew will also deliver a lecture on the “Global Economy and the Economic Relationship between the United States and Argentina” at Torcuato Di Tella National University.
