SAN JUAN – Six men and a woman were found in good health by Puerto Rican authorities after they got lost in the El Yunque tropical forest in the northeastern portion of the Caribbean island.
Puerto Rican police said in a press release on Tuesday that the woman called 911 about 2:40 p.m. on Monday saying that she was “disoriented” somewhere in the forest.
Authorities later tried to communicate again with the woman, but cellphone reception in the forest was very weak. Immediately, however, members of the island’s emergency management and disaster administration agency were dispatched to the area to launch a search for the tourists.
Three hours later, they located the tourists, who were exhausted but in good health.
This is the second such incident to occur in El Yunque in less than a week. Last Wednesday a pair of Indian tourists became lost in the area, although they were found the next day.
