SAN JUAN – Thousands of people gathered Monday in Port-of-Spain for the start of Trinidad and Tobago’s annual Carnival, the most famous in the Caribbean.
The two-day event began with elaborately costumed musicians and dancers parading down the streets of the capital and around the iconic Queen’s Park Savannah, the Ministry of Tourism said on its Facebook page.
Tuesday will see the crowning of the Masquerade Band of the Year.
The National Carnival Commission has organized various competitive events, including “monarchs of calypso.”
Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival is the best known in the region. Each year, thousands of people come to the twin-island nation to enjoy a mix of calypso, soca and other Caribbean rhythms.
