Jamaica to Host Annual Conference on Caribbean Regional Security

SAN JUAN – Dozens of top military and security officials from 16 countries are expected to gather in Kingston for the 14th Caribbean Nations Security Conference Kingston, Jamaica Defense Force spokesman Basil Jarrett told EFE in a phone interview.

Sponsored by the U.S. Southern Command, the Jan. 27-29 meeting will focus on strengthening regional capacity to deal with challenges such as natural disasters, drug trafficking, terrorism and transnational crime.

Jarrett confirmed that this year’s conference will be the first to include Cuba, joining the U.S., Canada, France, Britain and Caribbean nations.

Jamaica will be represented by JDF Gen. Anthony Anderson and senior officials from the National Security Ministry.
