MEXICO CITY – A reputed high-ranking mobster convicted in Italy of drug trafficking was arrested in the northern state of Tamaulipas, the Mexican Attorney General’s Office said Friday.
Giulio Perrone, 64, was apprehended in Ciudad Madero by Mexico’s Criminal Investigation Agency thanks to cooperation with Italian authorities, the AG Office said in a statement.
Perrone illegally entered Mexico and was found in possession of two photo identification under different names.
The fugitive is reputed to be a high-level member of the Camorra, a criminal organization based in Naples, and has been on Italy’s Ten Most Wanted list for more than a decade, according to the statement.
Perrone, convicted and sentenced in Italy to nearly 21 years in prison, was handed over to Italian authorities, the AG Office said.
