BRASILIA – Brazilian Foreign Minister Jose Serra has been released from the Sao Paulo hospital where he underwent back surgery last week, officials said on Sunday.
The 74-year-old Serra spent nearly a week convalescing at the Syrian Lebanese Hospital, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Serra, who had surgery on Dec. 19, is “doing well,” the ministry said.
Serra needed surgery to correct “segmental spinal instability and foraminal stenosis,” the Foreign Ministry said.
The foreign minister was released from the hospital on Saturday afternoon and spent Christmas Eve at home, where he will be recovering over the next few days, the Foreign Ministry said in a Twitter post.
