Two Soldiers Missing in Ecuador Shipwreck

QUITO – Two soldiers have been missing since their boat sank over the weekend on river along the border with Peru in Ecuador’s jungle Orellana province, the army said.

Cpl. Eduardo Alcivar and Pvt. Juan Alaba were swept away by the Aguarico River after their boat sank on Saturday.

The two soldiers had sailed out of the town of Nuevo Rocafuerte, the army said.

Soldiers are searching for the two men and an investigation has been opened to determine the cause of the shipwreck, the army said, adding that it would provide all necessary support to the relatives of the victims. EFE
