QUITO – Ecuador’s anti-drug police seized about 1.5 tons of cocaine in operations carried out in the provinces of Pichincha and Manabi, Teleamazonas television reported Tuesday.
Marcelo Tobar, the anti-drug chief in Pichincha, told the network that authorities found just over a ton of cocaine camouflaged in wooden boards that were going to be shipped to Italy.
He added that police also found documents from which it was deduced that the cargo was to be part of a series of shipments.
Teleamazonas said that police in Manabi confiscated about half a ton of cocaine valued at more than $30 million and noted that it was about to be dispatched to Europe in a shipment of frozen fish. EFE
