QUITO – Fifteen people died when a drunk driver lost control of his pick-up truck and hit a group of people waiting at a bus stop in Guayas, a province in southwestern Ecuador, the press reported.
Several children and a pregnant woman were among those killed, while an undetermined number of injured people were taken to hospitals, Ecuavisa said.
The driver, who is under arrest, was drunk and speeding when he slammed into the bus stop, eyewitnesses said.
The vehicle skidded, hit the bus stop and then ran over a group of people eating at a food stand.
Angry bystanders set fire to the vehicle, which belonged to the brother of a transit police officer, and also torched a police car. EFE
