BANGKOK – A 55-year-old Ecuadorian woman was held at the Bangkok airport with 2.35 kilograms (around five pounds) of cocaine among her belongings, local authorities told EFE on Wednesday.
The cocaine was hidden in seven cream and makeup containers in the checked-in luggage of the woman, who had arrived from Peru after a stop-over in the Netherlands, Narcotics Suppression Bureau chief Wutthipong Phetkamnerd said.
The police said the woman later confessed that she was to deliver the consignment to a man in Bangkok.
The police had also detained a Russian man on Monday, who, according to them was waiting for the woman at a hotel close to the airport.
Both have been accused of drug trafficking and face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
