The Latin America Upstream Research team is the global leader in oil and gas commercial analysis. With teams covering Latin America from offices in Houston and Rio de Janeiro, proximity to our clients and the industry’s leading players is critical to our success. This is an exciting opportunity to be one of the first upstream analysts to join our expanding Mexico City office. You will become an integral part of a growing team at the forefront of Wood Mackenzie’s continued expansion into Latin America.
Wood Mackenzie seeks experienced professionals to take our Mexico and Latin America research content and network to a new level. You will work with an international research team to provide our clients with in-depth commercial analysis of assets and companies. You’ll continuously grow your expertise in Mexico’s oil and gas sector, as well as other areas of Latin America important to the global oil and gas industry. This role will require regular interaction with high level government officials and corporate management in the oil and gas industry.
Proactive leadership to develop new, timely, and improved content for Mexico and other countries around the region
Creating, editing, and updating oil and gas commercial valuation models
Researching information on assets, companies and markets
Presenting at industry events to develop relationships with relevant regional stakeholders, including research contacts, clients and press
Travel within Mexico, across Latin America, and to Houston to conduct research meetings with industry contacts and to provide support to clients
Developing, writing, and editing opinion-shaping special reports relating to topical issues relevant to your region
Remain fully informed on market trends in your region and become the regional go-to expert for your area of focus
Provide expertise and support on consulting assignments
Contribute to the development and sales of upstream products
Knowledge & Experience Required
Qualified candidates will possess a strong knowledge of the upstream energy sector, gained from experience in industry.
Degree in relevant discipline required and at least 3-5 years of work experience.
The successful candidate must be fluent in both Spanish and English. Portuguese is a plus.
Must be willing to travel (3-5 times a year) and open to global opportunities.
Prior relevant work experience: oil and gas company, upstream service company, energy finance, or relevant government agency
Excellent financial modelling abilities Ability to write and proof documents ‘ready to publish’ in both English and Spanish
Creativity in interpreting and analysing data
Strong interest in oil and gas economics and Latin American politics
Very strong attention to detail and accuracy
The capability to understand the big picture and see your area of focus in the context of the global oil and gas industry
Superb problem solving and analytical skills
Confidence in public speaking and ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English and Spanish
Top notch interpersonal skills and ability to build and develop relationships with people at all levels in an organization
The ability to work as part of a team and flexibility to adapt to a changing regional landscape
Excellent organization and planning skills and the ability to manage your own workload
Punctuality and ability to meet deadlines with limited supervision
Strong record of leadership in a professional setting, including interactions with high level corporate and/or government executives
Experience using and creativity adopting multiple forms of communication (video, podcast, etc.)
