UK’s Princess Beatrice Engaged to Italian Property Tycoon

LONDON – The United Kingdom’s Princess Beatrice is engaged to her Italian property tycoon boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

Her parents announced on Thursday that the pair got engaged earlier this month in Italy and plan to marry in 2020.

The princess, 31, is ninth in line to the British throne, the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II, niece of Prince Charles and cousin to Princes William and Harry.

“We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement,” the couple said in a statement.

“We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married.”

Beatrice’s parents, the Duke and Duchess of York, said: “We are thrilled that Beatrice and Edoardo have got engaged, having watched their relationship develop with pride.

“We are the lucky parents of a wonderful daughter who has found her love and companion in a completely devoted friend and loyal young man.

“We send them every good wish for a wonderful family future.”

Mapelli’s parents, Nikki Williams-Ellis and Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, said they were “truly delighted” by the news and added: “Our family has known Beatrice for most of her life.

“Edo and Beatrice are made for each other, and their happiness and love for each other is there for all to see.

“They share an incredibly strong and united bond, their marriage will only strengthen what is already a wonderful relationship.”

Beatrice’s mother Sarah Ferguson also congratulated the couple on Twitter.

“I know what a mother feels so I have tears of joy,” she wrote.

“I am so proud of this sensational news. Andrew and I are just the luckiest people ever to have two great sons in law.”

Her sister Princess Eugenie posted on Instagram: “Beabea – wow! I’m so happy for you my dearest big sissy and dear Edo. It’s been a long time coming and you two are meant to be.”

Beatrice’s nuptials will be the fourth royal wedding in recent years.

Eugenie married businessman Jack Brooksbank in October at a ceremony in St. George’s Chapel, in Windsor Castle, near London.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Henry and Meghan, wed in May last year and Lady Gabriella Windsor married Thomas Kingston earlier this year.

Beatrice previously had a 10-year relationship with business executive David Clark before they split in 2016 and she was first seen in public with her fiance in June.

Mapelli, 34, is the son of former Olympic skier Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, who was friends with the Duke of York, while his stepfather, who died in 2011, was Christopher Shale, a conservative politician close to former Prime Minister David Cameron.

He has a three-year-old son from a former relationship with an American architect, Dara Huang.
