LONDON – The United Kingdom’s Prince William said on Tuesday that he has “many tips” to give his brother Harry on fatherhood and joked that he is happy welcome him to the club of sleep deprivation.
The Duke of Cambridge, second in the line to the British throne, said he was “absolutely thrilled” about the birth of Prince Harry and Meghan’s first child on Monday.
He was asked about the birth of his new nephew at an event in South London, which he attended with his wife Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, with whom he has three children, George, Charlotte and Louis.
William said: “We’re absolutely thrilled, and looking forward to seeing him in the next few days when he’s quietened down.
“I’m very pleased to welcome my own brother to the sleep deprivation society that is parenting.”
He added that he has a lot of advice to give Harry and continued: “I wish him well and I hope that in the coming days they can stabilize and enjoy having a newborn in the family and the joy that brings.”
Kate said that it is a very special moment and that spring is an excellent time to have babies.
She said she is looking forward to getting to know her new nephew and “know what his name will be.”
She added that the first days after the birth of a first child can be “a little overwhelming.”
The royal baby has not yet met his grandfather Prince Charles, who is traveling in Germany with his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
“We couldn’t be more delighted at the news and we’re looking forward to meeting the baby when we return,” he said in Berlin.
The Queen, 93, also appeared to allude to the arrival of her eighth great-grandchild at an event at Windsor Castle, West London, where a guest asked her “if life was going well” and she answered: “Yes, thank you.”
Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, plan to publicly present their baby in the coming days, but have not indicated whether they will do so through a press call or with a photo on social media.
Meanwhile British bookies have been taking bets on possible names for the newborn, who is seventh in the line to the throne, with Alexander and Spencer among the favorites.
