LONDON – U.S. media magnate Rupert Murdoch and former model Jerry Hall married on Friday in a civil ceremony in London before celebrating their commitment at a church in the British capital on Saturday.
A family spokesman confirmed that the owner of the newspapers The Times and The Sun, and the former wife of Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger, were married in London.
Murdoch, 84, and Hall, 59, broke the news last Jan. 12, four months into the relationship, through an announcement in the newspaper The Times, part of the media empire of Murdoch, owner of News Corporation and 21st Century Fox.
“Mr. Rupert Murdoch, father of Prudence, Elisabeth, Lachlan, James, Grace and Chloe Murdoch, and Miss Jerry Hall, mother of Elizabeth, James, Georgia and Gabriel Jagger, are delighted to announce their engagement,” the statement said.
The couple have not revealed details about the guests or the reception to be held on Saturday after the wedding, which is expected to attract a great deal of media attention in Britain.
Murdoch and Hall began their relationship last summer when they were introduced by the businessman’s niece, Penny Fowler, in Australia.
