WASHINGTON – U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama opted for an elegant grey, tweed suit by New York designer Michael Kors for the State of the Union address, the year’s most important speech by her husband, President Barack Obama.
The first lady once again impressed in a sober and warm design, along the lines of the forest green Azzedine Alaia ensemble she wore at the same occasion a year ago.
The Kors outfit she wore Tuesday, from the autumn 2013 collection, highlights a prominent and structured collar – seemingly Origami inspired – with a black zip on the jacket.
On Twitter, followers of the popular TV series “The Good Wife” immediately identified Obama’s dress as the same one worn by the show’s protagonist Alicia Florrick, played by Julianna Margulies, in its most recent season.
The suit is still available in several U.S. stores for a price of around $800.
It was not the first time that the first lady wore a Kors dress on a special occasion.
She chose one of his designs on the night of her husband’s reelection in 2012, as well as at the time of getting her official portrait at the White House in 2013.
This is the second consecutive year that she has decided on a formal outfit for the occasion after receiving flak in 2013 after a modernistic black and red Jason Wu dress she wore was considered excessively informal for the dignity of the Congress.
