China Calls for Caution from EU on Steel Probe

BEIJING – China’s Commerce Ministry warned the European Union against resorting to protectionist measures, saying it is willing to communicate and cooperate with the bloc to address the chaos caused by the United States’ tariffs on imported steel and aluminum.

The response from China came shortly after the EU reacted to the United States tariffs by launching its own investigation into imported steel.

“It is not a right choice to take trade protectionism measures globally,” the ministry’s Wang Hejun said Monday, adding that it would only worsen the problem caused by the US action.

Beijing will act if necessary to safeguard the interests of Chinese enterprises, Wang added.
