Seven Killed, 11 Injured after Gas Explosion in China Mine

BEIJING Seven people were killed and another 11 were injured in a gas explosion on Monday at a coal mine in Guiyang in the southwestern province of Guizhou, according to the official Xinhua news agency.

The explosion took place when 41 people were working inside the Dahebian mine, said the local authorities, adding 23 of the workers were rescued.

Officials at the site, owned by the state company Guizhou Shuicheng, have not yet released a statement on the incident.

A similar explosion on Feb. 14 in another coal mine in the Hunan province in central China, had claimed the lives of eight workers.
