MEXICO CITY – US celebrity Paris Hilton distributed blankets to Mexican children and met with families affected by the earthquake that struck Mexico City last Sept. 19, local media reported.
Hilton, currently in Mexico to promote her brand of shoes, visited a shelter for people left homeless in San Gregorio Atlapulco, one of the communities south of the capital that were hit hardest by the magnitude-7.1 quake.
The seismic shift left 360 people dead in Mexico City and the states of Puebla, Morelos, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Mexico state, added to the 98 deaths caused by another temblor a few days before, on Sept. 7.
On her visit, during which she was accompanied by members of Mexico’s Infancia Primero foundation, the businesswoman and model delivered blankets to the children, while their families gave her a basket of Mexican candies.
“I’m sorry for what happened on that horrible Sept. 19, the day of the earthquake. My heart is with all of you and I want you to know that I think of you, I love you and that is why I came to support you today,” Hilton told the Mexican press.
She added that she feels the Latin American country “is my second home, I’ve been coming to Mexico all my life. I love the people, I think they are all beautiful, they have great hearts, they are beautiful inside and out, they are very genuine and incredible.”
Paris Hilton arrived in Mexico last Sunday to promote her shoe brand, which she is presenting this Tuesday in a shopping area on Mexico City’s north side.
