TOKYO – A celebration of Samba took place in the Tokyo district of Asakusa on Saturday, with dancing troupes from all over the country descending on the Japanese capital to participate.
Adorned in ornate costumes in an array of colors, some even featuring lengthy feathers and sequins, dancers belonging to 18 teams gathered for the 36th edition of the Asakusa Samba Carnival.
Participants put on a lively show for a crowd of thousands as part of the annual event that brings fans of the Brazilian dance together.
Spectators were poised with their cameras at the ready, although there was a ban on the use of drones and selfie sticks, according to the event’s website.
The “best team” is selected by a panel of judges and awarded a prize.
