Midfielder Wu Lei: Joining Espanyol Was Right Move

SANT ADRIA DE BESOS, Barcelona – Espanyol midfielder Wu Lei said on Thursday the decision to move to the Spanish club “was a very good one” and that he has enjoyed “his time a lot.”

The player in Spain’s LaLiga, told reporters after training at Dani Jarque Sports City that he had “improved” since arriving to Real Club Deportivo Espanyol de Barcelona.

Wu played his first game against Villarreal and this Sunday will face the yellow-clad team again.

“Now we will face them,” he said of the impending match.

The Chinese player said he was worried about the clash:

“The only thing I am thinking about, nothing else, is that we can save ourselves.

“We have a lot of confidence.”

Wu Lei confessed he did not imagine such a delicate situation in sports at the beginning of the season.

“I didn’t think we would be in this situation, but we can achieve the goal of salvation,” he said.

Espanyol is at the bottom of the First Division four points from safety.

The midfielder added the draw in the recent derby against Barcelona FC had elevated the mood of the Catalan team.

“The most important thing was to add. That point has given us a lot of energy, it is very positive and we continue working to achieve our objective at the end of the season,” he said.

On a personal level, Wu Lei pledged to “give one hundred percent,” regardless of whether he starts as a starter or as a driver from the bench.

“As a footballer, I have to give my all, whether I start or not. In any position of attack I feel confident,” the player added.
