MADRID – The next edition of FIFA’s “The Best” awards will feature two new honors dedicated to the women’s soccer – the best goalkeeper and the best world 11, the international soccer governing body announced on Monday.
This brings to 11 the total The Best awards that FIFA will hand during a ceremony to be held on Sept 23 in Milan’s Teatro alla Scala theatre, including the best male and female players in the world who will succeed Croatia Luka Modric and Brazil Marta respectively.
Besides the awards for the best players, coaches, goalkeepers and lineup, there will be honors to the best fans, fair play and Puskas award for the best goal of the season.
“FIFA is certain that France will host a groundbreaking edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup this year, so I cannot think of a better moment to introduce these new awards. It is yet another step in the right direction to raise the profile of women’s football,” FIFA’s Deputy Secretary General Zvonimir Boban said, according to the FIFA website.
