Ferrari Presents Its New SF90 Car for 2019 Season

ROME – Scuderia Ferrari presented on Friday its new SF90 car that will be driven by the team’s racers Sebastian Vettel of Germany and Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc throughout the 2019 Formula One World Championship.

SF90 – which pays tribute to the 90th anniversary of the Ferrari F1 team – was presented during an event held in Maranello in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy.

“The car embodies the latest state of the art technology, reflects the new regulations for the coming season and is the fruit of the combined enormous work and talent of everyone in the Scuderia,” Ferrari CEO Louis Carey Camilleri said during the event organized under the motto of “Essere Ferrari,” which means “Being Ferrari.”

On display at the presentation was the new Ferrari racing car which has a new color grade; opaque red instead of the bright red that has been seen in recent years.

“‘Being Ferrari’ means being a part of a story that is without equal,” Ferrari’s chairman John Elkann explained. “A story that began 90 years ago with the tenacity of our founder Enzo Ferrari, with his passion for racing... and winning!”

In order to meet new F1 regulations, Ferrari has introduced several changes to their SF90 racing car. These changes include developing the front and rear wings, brake ducts, bargeboards, weight, a power unit and an engine cover. Also, the front wing has been made wider and the rear wing has become higher and wider, while the engine cover is now narrower, all of which Ferrari planners hope will improve the car’s aero efficiency.

“I think we all are excited,” Vettel, the four-time F1 world champion, said during the event, adding it was the first time to see the car ready.

“Unfortunately I am not dressed accordingly so I cannot just jump in and drive, but it won’t be too long,” the 31-year-old Vettel joked.

Vettel will be racing in 2019 with his new teammate Leclerc for the first time.

The 21-year-old Leclerc of Monaco said: “It is dream since child(hood)... I am extremely excited to start this new adventure,” underscoring that he was keen to learn from the racing legend Vettel.

Kimi Raikkonen was the last driver who won Ferrari’s last Driver’s F1 world championship in 2007 and Ferrari last won the coveted Constructors’ Title in 2008.

Vettel claimed the world title for four consecutive seasons, between 2010-2013. He won the four trophies when he was the Red Bull team’s driver.

Ferrari, who was the 2018 runner-up in both the Constructors’ Championships and Drivers’ Championships, is set to kick-off the 2019 season on March 17, in the Australian city of Melbourne.
