KARACHI, Pakistan – Retired Portuguese soccer legend Luis Figo and former Brazilian star Kaka on Thursday presented two soccer matches to be played later this month in a country where cricket is the most popular sport.
The former Real Madrid players arrived in the southern Pakistan city of Karachi earlier in the day to promote the 2019 World Soccer Stars event comprised of two exhibition games to be held in April and received a traditional hat and scarf as a welcome gift.
“I feel a warm welcome from everybody,” Kaka said at a press conference, adding that Pakistan’s 207 million inhabitants had the opportunity to get involved in this sport while recommending young soccer players to chase their dreams.
Figo, who took the stage carrying a cricket bat, also advised children to stick with dedication and hard work to fulfill their dreams.
The two players are to take part in the two games to be played in Karachi and the north-eastern city of Lahore with the participation of another 10 stars whose identities have yet to be revealed.
These matches come after the “Ronaldinho and his friends” event held in 2018 that included two exhibition soccer matches in which the former Barcelona superstar played alongside fellow Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos, Englishman Ryan Giggs, Frenchmen Nicolas Anelka and Robert Pires.
