Carlos Tevez Returns Rescued Marine Turtle to Ocean in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES Carlos Tevez, accustomed to making headlines for his soccer goals and assists, made news on Wednesday for another reason: returning to the ocean a marine turtle that was rescued after being trapped in a fishing net.

The forward for Shanghai Shenhua, along with his family, was at the seaside community of San Clemente del Tuyu, in northern Argentina, to return to the ocean the green sea turtle species Chelonia mydas that was found on Dec. 6 by a fisherman, the World Marine Foundation revealed on Wednesday in a statement.

The foundation said that the turtle did not have any plastic in its stomach and appeared to be in good health, adding that a blood analysis confirmed that it was healthy and ready to be returned to its natural habitat.

In the video accompanying the communique, Tevez is seen releasing the turtle at the shore with his three children Florencia, 12; Katia, 7; and Lito, 3 who appear to be visibly moved by the situation.

Tevez is in Argentina on vacation while the top officials at Boca Juniors try to convince him to leave the Chinese tam and return to the Buenos Aires squad.
