Spainís Rajoy Says He Is Confident of Spainís Participation at World Cup

MADRID Ė Spainís Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said on Friday he was confident the Spanish national team would take part in the 2018 World Cup, despite reports of potential exclusion.

FIFA, meanwhile, confirmed to EFE that it has expressed its concern over the current situation of the Spanish soccer federation.

ďThis is not a scenario I consider, and I am absolutely convinced that Spain will participate in the World Cup and will win it,Ē Rajoy said.

Rajoy said no official letter to that end had been received by the sportís ministry.

The international soccer federation is in contact with the Spanish national federation preparing for a FIFA delegation visit to Madrid to address the issue, FIFA said, however.

The year-long suspension of the Spanish soccer federationís head Angel Maria Villar on corruption allegations led to rumors about the possibility that the Spanish national team could be ruled out of the World Cup.
