ZURICH, Switzerland – Eight soccer legends are due to assist former English striker Gary Lineker, who was chosen last week to conduct the 2018 World Cup Final Draw, FIFA announced on Tuesday.
Laurent Blanc, Gordon Banks, Cafu, Fabio Cannavaro, Diego Forlan, Diego Maradona and Carles Puyol will assist Lineker and Maria Komandnaya, a famous Russian sports journalist who will help in conducting the draw, scheduled for Dec. 1 at Moscow’s Kremlin Palace.
“It is a great line-up and I am delighted to have FIFA Legends from all of the former World Cup winning countries represented in the Final Draw show,” FIFA president Gianni Infantino said.
The eighth Final Draw assistant will be Nikita Simonyan, a 91-year-old former Soviet striker and FIFA World Cup ambassador.
It was announced on Nov. 7 that Miroslav Klose, a retired German footballer and the top goal scorer in World Cup history, will bring the FIFA World Cup trophy onto the Final Draw’s stage.
