LONDON – Finland’s Henri Kontinen and Australia’s John Peers defeated Brazilian Marcelo Melo and Pole Lukasz Kubot 6-4, 6-2 on Sunday, successfully defending their doubles title at the ATP Tour Finals.
Kontinen and Peers needed 69 minutes to defeat the world No. 1 team, clinching their fifth title of the season in as many finals.
The pair also won the Australian Open, Washington, Beijing and Shanghai doubles titles.
The duo, who will end the season at No. 2, is the first to defend an ATP Tour Finals doubles title since Americans Bob and Mike Bryan achieved that feat in 2003 and 2004.
