HOUSTON – Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman hit a single to the left in the bottom half of the 10th inning to seal his team’s victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers 13-12 in Game 5 of the World Series championship on Sunday.
The Astros hit five home runs to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series and are now just one win away from clinching the championship.
After suffering their first home defeat of the postseason on Saturday, the Astros recovered form to notch a key win that takes them within sight of their first World Series title in their 56-season history.
After taking a three-run lead in the seventh inning, built by second baseman Jose Altuve, the Astros allowed the Dodgers to tie the score in the ninth inning.
Finally, Bregman shot a single into left field off Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen in the 10th inning to bring home pinch-runner Derek Fisher from second base and seal the win for the Astros.
Astros pitcher Joe Musgrove allowed one hit but otherwise kept the Dodgers in check.
Game 6 will be played on Tuesday at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
