Factory Workers in Israel Prepare Matzah Bread for Jewish Holiday of Passover

JERUSALEM – Workers in a factory in Jerusalem were getting stuck on Tuesday into the process of making Matzah, a type of unleavened, cracker-like bread eaten during the Jewish holiday of Passover, ahead of upcoming celebrations.

The Yehuda Matzos factory is one of the largest facilities involved in the making of this particular type of bread, and it ships its product to the United States, Canada and Europe.

Workers on the production line were engaged in various parts of the process, including preparing and kneading dough, before it was shaped and slotted into ovens to be baked, and finally packaged in boxes.

Passover, which begins Friday, commemorates the Jewish exodus from Egypt back in 1300 BCE.

During the holiday, Jews are forbidden from eating “chametz,” or leavened foods.
