MADRID Ė The number of unemployed people in Spain increased by 56,844 in Spain in October, compared to the previous month, totaling 3,467,026, according to official figures published on Friday.
Spainís public employment service SEPE said that in the last 12 months, the number of unemployed people went down by 297,956.
However, the increase recorded in the month of October was greater than that registered in the same month in 2016, when it touched 44,685.
Unemployment figures dropped in construction (5,190 less) and among people without prior employment (173), and increased mainly in the services (50,985 more), agricultural (9,194) and industrial (2,028) sectors.
Male unemployment rose by 25,912, reaching 1,465,377, whereas female unemployment touched 2 million, up 30,932 on September.
Unemployment among under-25s increased by 9,066 people, while among the over 25s it grew by 47,778 people.
Meanwhile, the number of subscribers to Spainís social security system in October recorded an increase of 94,368 with respect to the previous month, reaching 18,430,529 people, according to the countryís Ministry of Employment.
