Taliban Truck Bombing Kills 2 Security Personnel in Afghanistan

KABUL Ė Two security personnel were killed on Wednesday when a Taliban suicide bomber detonated an explosive-laden truck near a government building in eastern Afghanistan, an official said.

The attack wounded 26 people, including 20 students from a nearby Islamic seminary, Laghman province governorís spokesperson Asadullah Dawlatzai told EFE.

The bombing took place around 5.50 am near Alishang district administrative office in the eastern province, he said.

The complex houses district police headquarters as well as the governorís office. The explosion partially damaged the building structure of the seminary.

The wounded were taken to a provincial hospital and none of them was in critical condition, Dawlatzai said.

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid claimed that the attack was carried out by one of their suicide bombers.

Mujahid said in a statement that the district police headquarters was destroyed in the attack.

Taliban fighters have a significant presence in Alishang and three other districts of Laghman province. The government forces fully control only one district of the volatile region.
