Norwegian Rescuers Locate 3 of 4 Missing Skiers Hit by Avalanche

BLABAFJELLET, Norway – The bodies of three of four people buried by an avalanche in northern Norway earlier in the month have been found by rescuers.

The bodies of three skiers who disappeared earlier in January, thought to have been hit by an avalanche in a mountainous region, were being recovered on the Blabafjellet, a 1,442-meter (4,730-feet) peak in the Tamok valley close to the border where Norway, Sweden and Finland meet.

“Volunteers from the Avalanche group to the Red Cross in Troms today participate in the search for presumed casualties in Tamokdalen,” the Norwegian Red Cross had tweeted Wednesday. “Four people were taken by the avalanche that went down on January 2.”

The disappearance of the four people, one from Sweden and three from Finland, was reported by a fifth Norwegian member of the skiing expedition who was ahead of the group when the avalanche struck and reported the accident to the police.
